cellular materials_mvcomThis recently published special issue of Advanced Engineering Materials, guest-edited by Guenter Stephani (Dresden) and Michael Scheffler (Magdeburg) highlights new developments in the field of cellular materials.

This issue compiles a selection of contributions presented at the CELLMAT 2012 which was held in November 2012 in Dresden, Germany. Participants from 27 countries have exchanged information and knowledge of processing, characterization, and applications of this highly interesting class of materials.

All aspects of cellular materials such as recent results in manufacturing, progress in physical, chemical, and mechanical characterization and new applications were covered and are also represented in this issue. The variety of topics range from the fields of energy management (like heat storage and heat transfer), bioengineering, biomaterials, and life science to chemical and high temperature processes and prototypes in the automotive and aerospace sector with cellular materials. Modeling and simulation as well as application-related contributions are represented in this issue.
