Bill studied chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, after which he took a brief foray into the world of plant biology. He then relocated to Montréal, Québec to pursue a PhD in chemistry at McGill University, where he studied the membrane dynamics of redox-responsive vesicle systems and co-founded Faraday Farms, a chemistry community garden; like all hobbits, Bill shares a love of things that grow. He joined Wiley and the Advanced Science News team in 2022.
