John Wiley and Sons has announced that Professor Peter Gregory, Editor-in-Chief of Advanced Materials and Wiley Vice President & Publishing Director, has been awarded two honorary professorships, one by Nanjing University of Technology and one by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Founded in 1896 and 1902 respectively, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Nanjing University of Technology are among the oldest and most prestigious universities in China.
“The continued rise of Chinese science is one of the greatest success stories in the academic world, and the award of professorships from two of China’s most prestigious universities is deeply humbling,” said Professor Gregory. “As Editor-in-Chief of Advanced Materials, I have been privileged to work with many great Chinese researchers and I look forward to continuing to help in bringing the best of China’s research to the international scientific community.”
On Monday, September 9, Professor Gregory’s award ceremony at SJTU was followed by a full-day scientific symposium in Shanghai at which leading researchers presented their latest research results.
“In recognition of Dr. Peter Gregory’s outstanding contributions to the field of materials science and to promoting cooperation between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Wiley, it is my great honor to nominate Dr. Peter Gregory for this professorship of Shanghai Jiao Tong University,” said Professor Deyue Yan in his speech on behalf of President of SJTU. “He has made outstanding contributions to promote professional journals and books in chemistry, biology and materials science and he has also played an important role in the development and popularization of materials science worldwide.”
The award ceremony at Nanjing University of Technology followed on Monday, September 16, again as part of a scientific symposium.

These include an individual’s scientific contributions, their repute and their commitment to promoting international dialogue and collaboration. Peter’s stellar track record in materials science and particularly his work as the driving force behind Advanced Materials, more than place him in strong stead,” said Professor Ling Huang from Nanjing University of Technology. “We look forward to working even more closely with Peter to forge an even greater presence for Nanjing Tech in the international research community.”
