Science meets Tires – Perspectives for Tire Technology

by | Jul 2, 2013

Conference by IKV and ika on September 11 and 12, 2013 in Aachen.

The Institute of Plastics Processing (IKV) in Industry and the Skilled Crafts and the Institute of Automotive Engineering (ika) at RWTH Aachen University jointly organise the conference entitled “Science meets Tires – Perspectives for Tire Technology” on September 11 and 12, 2013 in Aachen. This international conference, which will be held for the second time after 2011, will serve as a platform for professional dialogue between tire experts and specialists in industry and research. The Conference Manager Dr. Gerard Nijman comes from Apollo Vredestein B.V. in Enschede, the Netherlands.

The interdisciplinary exchange between experts from industry and research looks at the importance of the tire for the automotive industry: The contact between a vehicle and the road is exclusively generated by the tires. They determine the transmission and the entire dynamics. The demands made on the tires, on their development and on their production are increasing continously. Maximum efficiency, safety and comfort are of the essence, and the basis for these characteristics is being created throughout the entire value chain of a tire – from research and product development to the raw material supplier, tire manufacturer and quality assurance expert.

The presentations and discussions cover the entire process chain and provide an outlook on future trends and developments. The thematic focus of this year´s international conference includes the design, dimensioning and testing of tires. The requirements of the automotive industry and innovations in processing will also be presented.

The speakers come from Apollo Tyres, the Netherlands, Ford Motor Company, USA, Goodyear, Luxembourg, Tyre Industry Research, UK, and from companies and institutes in Germany which are cosin scientific software, Deutsches Institut für Kautschuktechnologie, Ford Research, Fraunhofer ITWM, Harburg-Freudenberger Maschinenbau, Porsche, Volkswagen, and the ika and IKV institutes at RWTH Aachen University.

The conference will be held in English.
