Dear Advanced Science News reader,
After 30 years as Editor in Chief of Advanced Materials Peter Gregory will be passing on this honour and responsibility to a new generation and he will be leaving Wiley. In recognition of his seminal contributions to the growth and development of Advanced Materials and the family of now over 15 “Advanced” journals he will now be elevated to Editor Emeritus of Advanced Materials.
Although he will no longer have an active role in the journal, Peter will be remembered for his distinguished career. After completing his PhD in Chemistry at University College London, he moved to the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany for postdoctoral studies. He started at VCH in 1989 and nurtured Advanced Materials from its humble beginnings as a supplement in Angewandte Chemie to an indispensable resource for materials researchers, while also building up a successful book and encyclopedia publishing program in chemistry, chemical engineering, and materials science.
After a five-year stint at the Royal Society of Chemistry during which time he oversaw several important projects in their publishing program, he returned to Wiley and reprised his role as Editor in Chief of Advanced Materials, which has developed into one of the top journals in the field. Additionally, he extended the Advanced brand with over 15 journals in the highly successful materials science, physics, and life science portfolio, while extending the team’s activities globally with offices in Hoboken and Beijing.
We will begin recruiting immediately for his successor as Editor in Chief of Advanced Materials which will be announced as soon as possible. In the meantime, Jose Oliveira will serve as Acting Editor in Chief.
We recognize Peter at this point for his tremendous contributions both to Wiley journals, particularly to the Advanced Materials journals group, and the scientific community, and wish him well for the future.
