The 2020 Journal Citation Reports have been released and the 2019 impact factors (IF) for select Wiley journals in materials science, life sciences, polymers, and physical sciences are now available. Below you will find highlights from this year’s analytics.

Materials science
Wiley’s flagship journal in materials science, Advanced Materials, continues its growth for the thirteenth year in a row with an IF of 27.398 (+6%). For 30 years, the journal has published cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research and remains the community’s first choice for high-impact publications.
Established in 2011 and with an IF of 25.245, Advanced Energy Materials confirms its position as a top forum for high-quality research in energy harvesting, conversion, and storage.
Advanced Functional Materials has arrived at an IF of 16.834 (+8%), another record high for the journal, which publishes breakthrough interdisciplinary research in materials science, including nanotechnology, chemistry, physics, and biology.
Advanced Science is expanding its position as a premium open access journal covering fundamental and applied research in materials science, physics, chemistry, medicine, life sciences, and engineering. The journal’s IF of 15.84 is a testament to its importance as a platform for vibrant and innovative research.
Small Methods has received its first IF of 12.130. The journal focuses on cutting-edge advances in experimental techniques related to nano- and microscale research from all areas of materials science, biomedical science, chemistry, and physics.
With an IF of 11.459 (+6%), Small continues to be a high quality journal covering a broad spectrum of experimental and theoretical topics at the nano- and microscale.
Advanced Optical Materials has received an IF of 8.286 (+16%), publishing breakthrough discoveries and fundamental research in photonics, plasmonics, metamaterials, and more.
Advanced Electronic Materials achieved an IF of 6.593 this year (+4.5%), establishing its position as premium destination for the growing global scientific interest in materials with unique electronic and magnetic properties, key topics in materials science, device engineering, and physics.
Advanced Materials Technologies received an IF of 5.969 (+11%), growing in its position as a forum for applied technology materials research. The journal specializes in advanced device design, fabrication and integration, as well as technologies based on new materials, and aims to bridge the gap between the laboratory and industry.
Advanced Engineering Materials received an IF of 3.217 (+10%), another record high for the journal, almost doubling its IF since 2014. The journal focuses on research in engineering materials and advanced manufacturing techniques.
Advanced Theory and Simulations has received its first IF of 2.951, and focuses on the development and application of theoretical methods, modeling, and simulation in the natural sciences and medicine.
Steel Research International has received an IF of 1.810 (+19%). This journal provides a forum for advanced research in process metallurgy and metal forming, as well as materials engineering with an emphasis is on steel and materials involved in steel-making and processing.

Health, environment, and life sciences
Advanced Healthcare Materials strengthens its position in biomaterials research with a new IF of 7.367 (+17%), and continues to cover high-impact, early-stage materials, devices, and technologies for improving human health.
Advanced Sustainable Systems celebrates its first IF of 4.869. This interdisciplinary journal provides a forum for the development of sustainable technologies, systems, solutions, and applications, all of which aim to address the UN’s sustainable development goals.
Global Challenges is a new open access journal that aims to provide practical solutions to a broad spectrum of current global challenges, such as sustainability, energy storage, food and water safety, and climate change and environmental protection. This year, the journal has received its first IF of 4.306.
Solar RRL is happy to share its first IF of 7.527, establishing the dynamic and broad visibility its reviews and original research contributions in the field of photovoltaics, solar cells, photocatalysis, and related topics.
Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews (WIREs) is a series of review and reference resources across life, environmental, medical, physical, and social sciences:
In computational biology/chemistry, WIREs Computational Molecular Science has a new IF of 16.778 (+106%), and in life and health sciences, WIREs Nanomedicine and Nanobiotechnology has reached a new IF of 7.689 (+25%). WIREs RNA has reached a new IF of 6.913 (+40%), and WIREs Systems Biology and Medicine has reached a new IF of 4.275 (+21%).
In environmental and sustainability sciences, WIREs Climate Change has a new IF of 6.099, WIREs Water has a new IF of 4.451, and WIREs Energy and Environment has a new IF of 2.922.
In data science and artificial intelligence, WIREs Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery has reached a new IF of 4.476 (+76%), the highest in the journals’ history. WIREs Cognitive Science has a new IF of 2.880 and WIREs Developmental Biology has a new IF of 3.883.

Polymer science
Macromolecular Rapid Communications has reached a new IF of 4.886 (+20%), publishing original research in polymer science that encompasses disciplines such as chemistry, physics, materials science, and the life sciences. This year, the field of macromolecules sciences celebrates its 100th year.
Macromolecular Materials & Engineering celebrates a new IF of 3.853 (+27%). This high-quality polymer science journal is dedicated to the design, characterization, processing, and application of advanced polymeric materials.
With an increased IF of 3.416 (+18%) Macromolecular Bioscience is proud to publish leading research at the intersection of polymer, materials, life sciences, and medicine.
The Journal of Applied Polymer Science bridges the crucial gap between basic research and application. The journal continues to grow and saw an increase in its IF to 2.520 (+15%).

Physical sciences
Laser & Photonics Reviews received an increased IF of 10.655 (+18%). The journal publishes high quality reviews and original research in photonics and laser physics, both theoretical and experimental.
From quantum science to 2D materials and fundamental constants, the broad scope and cutting-edge research published in the one of the world’s most renowned physics journals, Annalen der Physik, has recieved an increased IF of 3.317.
The physica status solidi (pss) family continues to provide new and important results in all fields of solid state and materials physics, especially in rapidly expanding areas of spintronics, two-dimensional materials, topological matter, non-volatile memories, and devices. physica status solidi a– applications and materials science and physica status solidi b – basic solid state physics have received new increased IFs of 1.759 (+9.5%) and 1.481 (+1.9%), respectively. The family’s flagship journal pss (RRL) – Rapid Research Letters has received a new IF of 2.291.
