In March 2012, more than 600 specialists from all sections of the plastics industry came to the Eurogress in Aachen for the 26th IKV International Plastics Technology Colloquium to learn about the latest trends and developments in plastics processing. The event was attended by raw material producers, machinery manufacturers, mold designers and plastics processors from nearly 300 companies and institutions from 15 nations.
The IKV (Institut fuer Kunststoffverarbeitung; Institute of Plastics Processing at RWTH Aachen University) presented a selection of its latest research results from the last two years. With 600 delegates, the Colloquium proved once again that it is a key industry forum for the plastics industry. Under the motto “Integrative plastics technology”, IKV directed its attention this year to the future of plastics technology. Only by adopting a combined approach to product development, material properties and processing processes can plastics products be manufactured in accordance with the specifications, while conserving resources and being economical at the same time.
The delegates praised the high quality of the presentations, the good organization of the event and the accompanying trade show with over 40 exhibitors. IKV had managed to secure a number of leading experts from industry to present the papers and chair the workshops, and this also played a key role in this positive appraisal. This year, more than ever before, the Colloquium offered a successful platform for networking, and this was actively utilized by the guests.
Another highlight was the presentation of the Georg Menges Prize 2012 to Herbert Kraibühler (Managing Director Technology at Arburg GmbH + Co KG) for his outstanding contribution to the practical realization of research and development results, and his commitment to intensive cooperation between science and industry. Furthermore, the Fiber-Reinforced Plastics Study Prize 2012 was awarded to Arne Böttcher, a scientific assistant at IKV, for his diploma thesis entitled “Development of acoustically optimized sandwich structures for aircraft interior parts”.
The IKV was grateful to all participants for their commitment and the many ideas that were expressed in individual talks and discussions. Also the support of the member companies of the sponsors’ association and the government departments was appreciated.
